Peter Lund |
Peter Lund is Professor (Engineering Physics/Advanced Energy Systems) at Aalto University (formerly Helsinki University of Technology). He has a background in applied physics, but he has worked with energy issues, energy efficiency, new and renewable energy technologies since 1979. His present academic interests covers global energy issues and future solutions, but also advanced technologies such as sustainable buildings and communities, solar energy, fuel cells, hydrogen and nanotechnology for energy applications. He has acted as an advisor to the European Commission in several different roles, has coordinated Finnish R&D activities in new energy technologies, and acted as consultant on energy issues to industry, governments, and international bodies.
Dr. Lund has chaired the Advisory Group on Energy of the European Commission, several EU/FP evaluations, Finnish-Russian Committee on S&T cooperation on new renewables, Baltic Sea Region Cooperation of senior official’s energy efficiency group. He served long as board member of the OECD/IEA solar R&D programmes where he was co-pioneered international collaboration on zero-energy buildings and photovoltaics in buildings. He has served also as board member of the Research Council of Norway’s energy programme, Swedish Energy Authority’s fuel cell R&D and the Austrian Arsenal Research Centre advisory board. He is presently member of the steering committee of the Energy Steering Panel of the European Academies Science Advisory Council (EASAC), European Strategy Forum on Research Infrastructures (energy) and the European Platform of Universities Engaged in Energy Research (EPUE). He is board member of the WWF-Finland, the Swedish Academy of Engineering in Finland and Instituto Madrileño de Estudios Avanzados Energia in Spain. He has consulted on strategic assessments and participated in evaluations in Austria, Canada, Denmark, Estonia, EU, France, IEA/OECD, Nordic Council of Ministers, Norway, Portugal, Saudi-Arabia, Spain, Sweden, and the Parliament. On national level, he was the founding member of the national solar energy society (ISES) and the university’s energy institute, among others. He has participated in a specialist capacity in several governmental working groups.
Dr.Lund is Editor-in-Chief for Interdisciplinary Reviews: Energy and Environment and Editor of International Journal of Energy Research. He holds a D.Sc. from Helsinki University of Technology and has supplementary education from London Business School. He has received several honorary awards. He has published over 400 research papers.
