Professor Yi WANG (王毅)

Professor Yi WANG is currently served as the Deputy Director-General of the Institute of Policy and Management (IPM), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), and Deputy of the National People’s Congress of China (NPC, the legislation branch of Chinese Government) since 2008.
Prof. WANG is actively engaging in many aspects of China’s policy studies. His research result has been contributed to form and shape many China’s current policy making and institutional arrangements. His research interests include strategic issues and public policy studies of sustainable development, especially in the fields of climate change and energy package, integrated river basin management, and comprehensive plan for the environment and development. He is also the author and editor of numerous publications including more than 30 books and more than 100 technical papers. His works have been won several ministerial-level awards including the 4th Chinese Youth Science and Technology Award.
From 2005 to present, Prof. WANG is serving as a professor of public policy at CAS Institute of Policy and Management.
From 1995-2004, he served as a senior member of research staff at CAS Center for China Studies. His research was focused in policy and strategic studies of China’s long-term development issues including population, resources, energy, and the environment.
From 1985 to 1994, he served as an associate professor at Chinese Research Academy of Environmental Sciences and CAS Research Center for Eco-Environmental Sciences. His research was focused in the environmental management and resources policy.
He respectively received his Ph.D. degree from CAS Graduate School and bachelor degree from Tsinghua University.
Prof. WANG is currently holding the following posts: Team Leader and Chief Scientist of CAS China Sustainable Development Strategy Study Program since 2006, Deputy Director of the CAS Climate Change Research Center since 2009, Deputy Director of the CAS Center for Sustainable Development Research since 2006, Deputy Director of the CAS Center for Interdisciplinary Studies of Social and Natural Sciences since 2007, Adjunct Professor of the Center for China Studies of CAS and Tsinghua University since 2005, Adjunct Professor of Graduate School of the CAS since 2002. He is also serving as the standing member of the Board of Directors of several academic societies, member of the editorial board of several academic journals, and senior adviser to a dozen of international organizations and foundations such as UNDP, UNIDO, GEF, World Bank, ADB, EU Delegation in China, AusAID, CIDA, WWF-China, WRI, Energy Foundation, and Ford Foundation.
